I was chosen along with two others from my course to
design a catalogue for an exhibition held by Arts University Bournemouth. We were tasked to design a beautiful catalogue featuring the work of BA (Hons) Costume and Performance Design students who were asked to design
a set of costumes inspired by a concert which the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra performed
Stravinsky’s ‘The Firebird’.
We wanted to create something that was very tactile as it was featuring the work of the costume department. We used translucent paper on key pages showing images throughout the book. We created a Firebird and flame pattern for the cover and the gold foil blocking gave it the 'wow factor' needed to promote the glamorous event.
This live brief allowed me to develop my layout skills whilst giving me the freedom to produce something beautiful using interesting paper and printing techniques, something
I wouldn't normally get the chance to do on other projects.
