Re:nt by John Lewis
This was a a project myself and Harry Kitchin did towards the end of our first year to experiment with typography. We were briefed to create a piece of 3D typography of Leonardo Da Vinci's initials that would sit
in a box.
One of Da Vinci’s most successful designs was the aerial screw, we wanted to incorporate this in our 3D typography. We chose to layer hundreds of sheets of paper to create these fragile 3D initials, sat in an ordinary filing box. To develop the concept further, we produced a flickbook and a short stop-frame animation.
When I originally thought of 3D typography, I imagined it to be completely out of my comfort zone but I managed to add my own quirky way to respond to the brief, which resulted to me thoroughly enjoying the project.
